My neighbor went through something similar with Verizon. His son, DIL and their kids moved back into his home (temporarily) while their new home was being completed. Long story, but the buyer for their previous home paid top-dollar, but wanted immediate occupancy, so they had to move-out.
His son (and family) needed internet access, so his son signed him up for a "bundle" deal--cable, internet, and land-line. When they moved-out to their new home, my neighbor thought he could save a few bucks/month by dropping the internet--he and his wife didn't even own a computer. NOPE!--if he cancelled the internet service, he voided the "bundle" deal and his monthly bill would GO-UP $40. So he has internet, but no computer, but at least his kids and grandkids have it available when they visit...
