Coincidentally, she also inherited my temper. She made it clear to me that in my case it was quite possible that both parties could be found to be in the wrong - if not ultimately at least to the point of being charged. In general I agree with this: it is important not to escalate based on the assumption that you are the wronged party and that somehow justifies it. You could well be doubly wrong in the eyes of the law.
Note that in my case the woman accused me of physically threatening her husband, and I immediately denied it. I was also very careful not to make any threatening gestures toward her. Even giving her the tongue lashing I did was pretty risky. If someone feels threatened there may be grounds for an assault charge in Ontario.
