It's more complicated than that.

And don't count on it, because a) It's three years till the next quadrennial election, which is about a million political lifetimes, b) a guy his age might not live that long, c) you can't beat somebody with nobody, and d) the main "somebody" who could run against him is toxic to a majority of voters.
Even total fuckups get re-elected if they're perceived as more likable than their opponent. See the elections of 2004 and 2012.
BTW, keep your eye on Josh Hawley. He's another Ivy Leaguer, something Joe isn't, but he's got a lot of ideas that would be popular with voters in both parties and he's young. Could be a contenda.
