...why are you living there in the first place? Granted, things are getting worse (again, regardless of what you believe to be the cause), but many of these areas were considered all-but-uninhabitable by those that lived here long before us (aka, Native Americans). No one forced you to build a multi-million home or hotel/resort complex right on the coast, or in a swamp. No one built settlements in desert areas that were too arid for farming, and too hot to tolerate--before we started pumping the water-table dry and built some good 'ol fossil-fuel-fired power plants to run the A/C.I've got friends in FL that have lived for decades in the typical path of frequent hurricanes, and they either renovate or completely rebuild every few years. After the first few times in the course of a decade or so, you'd think they'd get the hint.
There are modern-day "ghost-towns" and abandoned ranches/farms throughout areas of the southwest that have relied upon deep-well pumping/irrigation for years, but the water-table is so depleted (due to expansion/excessive use) that it is no longer technically or economically feasible to stay there anymore.
We continue to rebuild and expand towns/cities on known fault-lines, and just try to "brace for the next big-one".
Simple human arrogance--"we can control/modify nature". In the long-run--"no we can't".
"And today is for sale and it's all you can afford. Buy your own admission. The whole things got you bored. Well the Lord chooses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord"--a very dear friend for decades Michael Stanley (Gee)--RIP
