...a LOT of new/newer construction is absolute garbage. It looks good (the day it is completed), but I wouldn't bet on it being here 100 years from now. Everything is the cheapest/flimsiest stuff you can get away with--built to the lowest acceptable standards (custom builds excepted, of course).
Old homes can be a PITA, but I figure if they're still standing after 100+ years, they'll probably still be here long after I'm gone. My current home was built in the early 1830's, so coming up on it's second century.
