...and I'm a "car guy". I've fallen into "the trap" before, and that's the reason I sold the handful of "classic American Muscle cars" that I owned. They were "fun" when I bought them, but then they went through a rapid "appreciation phase", and the values went through the roof. At that point, they became "assets", rather than just fun to drive cars. When all you do is detail/maintain them, and drive them on and off of a trailer to go to car-shows to sit in the blazing sun for other people to look at them, the "fun" rapidly goes away. I "cashed-out" and sold them, and bought others that I wasn't afraid to drive (for fear of damage/financial losses).
It's no different than the guys with 1000+ sealed albums in their collections. Worth a fortune?--maybe. How do they sound?--you'll never know. Having ~3000 albums in my collection, there are a few dozen still sealed--and they are duplicates that I just happened to acquire along the way. The point is the music, and there is no music until you open them and play them--unless you're just an investor/collector.
