RE: The HELLBUG car tears up the highway in Idaho...

Nice, but the thing looks like a cockroach. Most newer cars do anyway.

Talking about tearing up the road though, I did it literally. I had a 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado with the W34 option. Between the weight of the 455 engine, Turbo 425 tranny and the differential, with all that weight on the drive wheels it DID literally tear the road up. I mean we are talking asphalt flying here.

I beat Vettes in that car. I never raced title for title though because what do I want with a car I beat ?

The car responded like a rubber band, and still had a passing gear at 105 MPH.

I decided that torque is the way to go. It was hard, even in the late 1970s, to find a place where you could even drive 100 MPH, let alone 200 MPH. Even in that day street races were short.

They never closed the roads for us. I have never even been to Quigly, which is a road here known for drag racing.

Why is it called drag racing ? What is getting dragged ? I remember the symbol with the fingers in like a V which meant "wanna drag ?". But how the hell did it ever get that name ? It is racing, there is nothing dragging behind the cars. So how did it ever get that name ?

Just askin'
