These berries come in many names. Depending on where you live in NA. In my neck of the woods, we called it Saskatoon Berries. I'm sure the black bear who harvest them during the summer couldn't care less as to what everybody calls it as all they know it tastes good.

I grew up on the banks of Columbia River in the southern part of the province of British Columbia. The area is full of indigenous fruits and vegetables that grow wild along the bank of the river. Vegetables such as Asparagus, Mushrooms (you have to know the edible kind) before harvesting them, Dandelions just to name a few and berries such as Saskatoon, Blueberries, and Red berries to name just a few.

When I was young I used to harvest them according to its growing season or if you have a bear friend living nearby that is good as you just follow his lead. I used to harvest the Asparagus around the 2nd week of March and the berries between the months of July and August. And in between those months, we used to raid our neighbors Bing cherries to fill the craving gaps.

Saskatoon Berry pie was one of Mom's favorite as she made it with a lot of passion and care. The leftover berries she usually made a jelly out of them so we can enjoy them during the winter months.

If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing well
