I use Terro, ants come in, removes the bait and then scurries it back to their nesting Queen killing her and those around her.
At the first sign of ants I usually place a couple of drops near their path. A day or two later the trail INCREASES in ants which is freaky but at least you know they're gathering the poison. A couple days later no more ants. Ditto for outside near the trash cans.
