So at the store today medium eggs were .65 a dozen, large .89 a dozen. It seemed mediums were a similar weight. I took a dozen of each and headed toward the digital scale at an unused checkout aisle.
Large 1.52 lb
Medium 1.39
By law large eggs must weigh 24 oz or 1.5 pounds to be classified as large. So the medium is the far better deal. The math:
The mediums weigh 91.44% as much as the large
The mediums cost only 73% as much as the large
The mediums cost 46.76 cents a pound
The large cost 58.55 cents per product
I eat mostly egg whites for the taste, that they are fat free protein is a bonus. I do want the benefit of egg yolks and once week eat my daily veggie omelette with Barnyards Best cage free antibiotic free blah blah blah eggs because they taste better. Its a wash on egg whites only, cant tell.
Either way the egg is a great value and fits my tight budget these days.
