If you ask someone in the US (or Canada or Mexico) to hum their favorite pitch, the pitch that most people will hum is going to be close to a B-flat. OTOH, if you ask someone in the UK (and most of the rest of the world) to hum their favorite pitch, the pitch that most people will hum will be different (close to a G-natural).
