We get some pretty hot days in the Denver area as well but the humidity is very low... unless it's about to rain.
It generally cools down at night and into early morning so we open the windows until about 9 a.m. when I shut everything and close the blinds. My wife complains that it's like living in a dark cave but she can't seem to understand that the bright light from the sun shining down in the rooms heats things up. We turn ON the AC in the afternoon.
