After 25 years as a psychiatric RN working in addictions I have met only one person who managed a heroin addiction. After this man , with a 25 year addiction , retired he could no longer afford his habit. The literally thousands of others had lost jobs ,friends ,lovers, family and essentially all self respect.Not to mention the ones that had done significant prison time and the countless others whose names I have seen on the obituary page.
