The first thing this American Boy did upon arriving in Oxford in 1967 was to turn right at the Carfax then half a mile to this enormous warehouse filled with used Triumphs, BSA, Matchless, Royal Enfields and ride out on a well-used BSA Gold Star.

8 years ago, being semi-retired and driving past a Triumph dealer daily, I decided the new, digitally re-mastered Triumph Bonneville was just the thing. I paid my $200 and took the weekend safe drivng course, got a license and a rebate coupon.

The next day I was stopped at a long light busy intersection and noted the not insignificant number of people who who were engaged with cell phones, make-up and various other distractions.

I never got the bike.
