The experts in the tactical training classes I've taken all agreed that the noise of cycling the action could alert a home intruder to your whereabouts in a dark room
My humanity requires warning an intruder that if he enters my bedroom, he will get shot. As my carry permit training dictates. Our bedroom is in the back of the house. If the breach is such that I'm aware of entry, then I'll call 911 and close the door. Since the room opens out on both sides, I want the intruder to know I'm in there.
Which side? They won't know - unless they do make the mistake of entry.
