Both of our dogs were rescues, taken from the street, not an agency. They did present some challenges, but they were wonderful dogs, although very different.

If you don't want to take on an unknown challenge, and are willing to consider another breed of dogs, you could consider a rescue greyhound. Our daughter had one. They are extremely easy dogs to own and incredibly sweet and charming. There are many retired racers in need of a home, and there are agencies which will help you find one whose temperament and needs fits with yours. Our daughter's dog was a saint.
