At the age of ten I asked my Dad ...

...what kind of car I would get when I was 16. He said that would depend on how much money I had. Which meant he wasn't going to help. So I started working.

I had my Mom make flyers and I got on my bike and put them in mailboxes for miles around. For the next 5 years I ...

Cut lawns.
Delivered newspapers.
Shoveled driveways.
Raked leaves.
Tilled gardens.
Painted fences.
Cleaned gutters.
Walked dogs.
House sat.
Baby sat.
Dug holes for post rail fences.
Dug holes for planting trees.
Cleaned garages.
Cleaned a barn.
Painted a barn.
Painted outdoor furniture.
Fed horses.
...I'm sure I'm leaving some out.

By the time I was 16 I had over $7,000 and bought a '66 MGB for $300.

I continued doing odd jobs while in high school.

While in college the first two summers I worked for a lawn service and the second two summers I was an archery instructor at a day camp.

Fall and winters were spent working at an audio shop outside of Boston.

I too tried selling vacuum cleaners, but not Kirby, but the POS "Rainbow" vac with the water in the canister. I sold one.

After college I got a job selling audio while I looked for real work. Never found real work and sold audio for 14 years.

Now a small business owner.

At 58 I feel like I've been working forever and still have a long way to go.

Dean.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
