....from the NC Dept. of Revenue after I moved from CA to NC in 2011. It was for tax year 2008, and the actual income tax was only about $7k -- the rest was interest and penalties for my failure to file a NC tax return for that year.....when I lived in CA and had no income in NC. A dozen phone calls and 3 certified mailings later it was corrected, only to get another bill with penalties and interest the next year for tax year 2009, and then the year following that for 2010. In 2011 I filed a NC return as I actually had income in NC that year, and the harassment finally ended. The first one was beyond irritating to resolve but perhaps understandable initially as a mistake, but the following two were just downright maddening.
