Yes, some outrageous amount of time. I was not alone in accruing huge amounts of PTO = Paid Time Off.
I made 10 hours PLUS every pay period.
As I was leaving, the company set a LIMIT of accrual which minimized their downstream liability.
Also, in years past, a person getting laid off got 3 weeks pay, 1 week per year, all vacation and some other more minor bennies.
So? I'd HAVE gotten 15 weeks (12 years, IIRC) PLUS my vacation which would have put me well over the 6 month mark.
By the time I wanted to quit, or get laid off, that had ALL changed and the beneifit was that if I got to my car quickly enough after signing out, it was NOT towed off.
If I had been an 'executive' It is not un-feasible that I got paid in a deferred fashion, which means I could have spread the Tax liabiliity over 2 years. NOPE. Not a chance, you peasant.
Also? I was offered another position in the company paying about 1/2 my 'current' rate which would have LOWERED the value of my Vacation by Thousands of Dollars.
They would NOT pay my vacation off at current rate, than allow me to continue my employment.
Too much is never enough
