Installation by ANY Provider

When we moved into this house a couple years ago, I decided to go with Dish Network which had the best bundle pricing at the time and (of course) free installation. The guy was scheduled between noon and 4, never showed. Called the next day, got an apology and a new scheduled time 2 days later between noon and 4. Guy shows up at 4:05 in a really bad mood -- guess he was pissed he'd be getting home late. I'm only glad he was late enough for me to be there. He strung out 100+ feet of coax, and started running it along the baseboard and up the side of an interior door frame. I asked him what he was doing, and he said this was the best route to run the cable. His plan was to run it along the baseboard, and wrap around 3 door frames to get the cable from the exterior wall (where he was going to drill a hole to run the cable through) to the TV. I told him all the wiring was already in the wall, and he then told me he was not allowed to use "someone elses" wiring. I said fine, use your own wiring, but put it in the wall. Oh, that would be $295 per connection. Yes, I was amazed, but I managed to politely tell him to gather his stuff and get out. So, he gets on his cell phone calling his boss, and then hands the phone to me 'cause the boss wanted to speak to me. I told his boss that I'd been in a lot of different homes in my life, and had never once seen coax wrapped around door frames as part of a cable installation. He replied that's how they always did it, and I replied that's not how they'd do it in my house. He started to get pretty rude, and when the first four letter word emanated from his end, the technician's phone suddenly slipped out of my hand and dropped onto the concrete floor of the garage. Not really sure how I lost my grip on that thing. Butterfingers, I guess. The back and battery popped off...not sure if it still worked or not. Darn.

Hacks. I've moved a lot in my life and had a lot of cable/satellite installs, and not a single one has been done without some kind of grief or sloppy, don't-give-a-crap style of workmanship. I have AT&T now, and it was actually one of the least painful installations I've experienced. Go figure.
