thanks for the kind words. You are certainly correct in thinking that I do not drink. I do on occasion have some wine with my evening meal, but always at home, never in a restaurant. That is not only because I carry a firearm, but also because I will be driving. I NEVER imbibe to the point of becoming drunk. I just don't care for the experience of drunkenness.

Your observation about the sharp difference in culture is salient as well. Hence the difference between the two countries. I believe that, generally speaking, the people in Australia are a bit more civil. Here in the U.S. MOST people are equally civil and respective of their fellow man, but sadly, there are gang-bangers, dope heads, and an assortment of petty "opportunity" criminals that prey upon good citizens.

Although I am a proud, patriotic U.S. citizen, I realize that we do have some problems. I believe that our youth have not had instilled in them a true respect of other persons and other person's property. Lacking that basic foundation of respect for their fellow man, they have no qualms about robbing, raping, burglarizing, killing, etc.

It would be too involved for a post here, but if one does a thorough analysis of the crime in the U.S., the vast majority of robberies and burglaries are drug related. Absent those drug crimes, the crime rate in the U.S. is actually quite low. BUT, while it may be interesting to ponder such things in a clinical setting, while out and about it is possible to become a victim a criminal.

I appreciate the respectful manner in which you voiced your differing views, and no offense was taken. Might I pose a question for you? Would you be be comfortable dining out if there was a policeman in the restaurant? (this is based on my assumption that policemen there carry firearms. If not, I apologize). Admittedly, this is a *somewhat* leading or loaded question, but is not meant to be abrasive or dismissive, just checking to see if your response is like that of most of the people here with whom I speak.
