the storm (Irene)

is pretty rough, but not as intense as predicted. That's a good thing. Strong winds, HEAVY rains. Lots of trees down. Power has been off for a while but I fired up the generator long enough to check the news/weather on tv and drop by Central.

One sad note, on the news they just told of a young lad being killed when a large tree fell on the apartment where he lived. I feel for the family. To loose a child is a parent's worst nightmare.

The eye of the storm is just now over Virginia Beach and we're just a little to the west of there so we're in the worst of it just now. Should begin easing off in a couple hours, then we'll be on the back side of it and things will calm down.

PS: the arrival of the eye of the storm has coincided with high tide so there's quite a bit of flooding and some bridges have collapsed. Thankfully, we're on a bit of higher ground and haven't been affected by the rising water.
