I had a 142S Volvo Australia team car - from that rallying period - it had 600,000 hard miles on it by

the time I put a 2.2 short motor in it.

I rolled it within the year!

NO roll cage as it had been 'just' the team runabout!!!!

Minilite mags? No! Just 'standard style' slotted steel rims - but widened inwards by 1.5"! ;-)!

Lights?? 110 watt QH H4 (IIRC?) inserts, two lil rectangular ones - fog and spot - under the front bumper - switchable by high beam lever / independently! High-rate clicker can!

Standard ride-height for all those Aussie bumps. A real Q-car it was!

Twin HS6* 2.5 inch SU's avec wet-foam air filters, rally cam, rally head avec big HT valves, extractor type cast-headers, lightened flywheel, HD clutch plate (oooHHHHHH my LEGGGG!!!), balanced/lightened crank, rods, HC 3 ring pistons, big bore StSteel exhaust and mufflers. Shell Super or Castrol GTX oil. It idled at 800 - to 950!

Uprated oil-pump and cooler down front of block, thermatic fan and large-core 'towing/SW/AC' type radiator. 155 BHP @ 5,800 from 1.8, 85 at the rear wheels, and this was before the 2.2 block! Not bad for an OHV 4, eh?! LOTS of low-end grunt too!!! And it wasn't even a cross-flow!

The 2.2 block IIRC was 'nearly square', had been overbored and sleeved-back, with screw-in sleeves!

THICK F&rear AntiRollBars's, prog-rate local coils by Revell, air-bag bump-stops, Gas oil adj. rally dampers, delrin bush / mounts including for the trailing-arms of the rear axle, and a thicker panhard rod. Uprated steering box plus a damper! Leather wheel cover! Volvo roof-rack. heavy gauge sheet steel/tube-frame skid-plate sump protector - under the donk.

Sintered pads on all 4 'thick' discs, dual-boosters, High Temp fluid, and hard linings for the auxiliary drums!

? To make hand-brake turns, easier. floor lever!

And a BIG tacho - with tell-tale needle set at 6.5k - sitting on the dash top. Great long gearstick and strip speedo. Halda mounts, Rally front harnesses. And 'P1800' type front buckets, with lumbar adjust, AND sides to grip you!!!

Sydney is 190 miles away, and I could do it - on the HWY in <3hrs!! And, I was never booked!

I eventually put in carpets and noise-pads just about everywhere, even the doors - to put a 3-piece stereo in it! button radio, Dolby-deck and EQ amp. BIG 'tenna on the top of the roof! Twin 10 inch twin-cones in the back, plus a 13x 9 woofer and 6ers in the foot-wells. Tweeters? No, not back then.

It eventually had a baby seat in the back! Wide/long? doors tho'!
