If the caller ID indicates that it's a telemarketer (800 service, long distnace with a blocked ID, for example) I answer, "Telemarketer Answering Service." 9 times out of ten, that results in an immediate hang up. Other times, I screw with them, asking them for explanations and to repeat stuff endlessly. One time an aggressive-sounding guy called me and, after claiming he could lower my mortgage rate, asked (demandingly) to know what my house was worth. I told him $17 million. He got angry with me for screwing with him. But he didn't call back.
When people call doing surveys, I ask them what they pay for opinions. They are amazed that I would want money for something they are going to package and sell with other people's opinions.
Telemarketers--the virtual home invaders. Gotta love 'em.
