I rarely listen to music on radio, Tim...

except for the occasional "Prom" broadcast that looks appealing, so - even ignoring my normal reluctance to contribute to polls - there would seem to be little point in recording this on your forum poll...

When there is an already extensive personal library of recordings one thoroughly enjoys, a very good orchestra and concert-hall about 20 mins away from home plus several other good periodic venues within a 50-mile radius, I suppose this naturally limits how much radio will be regarded as a prime source for musical performances we have not yet heard but might wish to purchase...

IMO there are thoroughly enjoyable performances delivered both from pre-1970s and subsequent (including some HIP) recordings, but also others which are evidently generally well-regarded from both groupings which I regard as unmusical "turkeys"... I suppose that this is just another instance of "different folks, different strokes"...

Whether or not you are speaking to CJ seems to be a touch curious... Whilst others on non-music forums may or may not share my opinion that this particular inmate has congenital inadequacies in terms of intellectual honesty that apparently prevent any form of genuinely impartial assessment together with frequently tetchy reactions to anyone who does not appear to agree with his stated views, I would imagine that such factors would be likely to be far less of an issue on the Music forum, where every viewpoint is very individual and obviously largely "subjective" in nature...

And yes, polarity of recordings is an obvious issue, and one where not collecting a lot of "compilation" recordings avoids the possibility of an awful lot of lead-swapping, rather than simply being able to relax and listen to the music... It's so much easier to note the colour-coding I give to each recording and to check equipment phase just once before playing!...

When I make my own compilation recordings, checking the polarity of each contribution before recording is simply another stage of the process...

I hope that all goes well in Oz...

Bill.
