New Car Time?

Our 1996 Toyota Avalon, with 93,000 miles on it, needs about $700 worth of parts and work to keep it running safely. It's been a fine car, but before dumping $700+ into a car that old I thought I'd look into possible replacements. Yesterday my wife and I looked at several possibilities including the current (2007) Avalon and the Infiniti G35 sedan.

Both are excellent cars, combining some luxury with spirited performance, but are they are far from identical. The Avalon is more of a luxo-cruiser, but handles nicely with the Touring package and it accelerates nicely (6.9 seconds, 0-60). Its main drawback is that it fairly huge, and will barely fit in our garage. The G35 is a real rocket (5.5 seconds, 0-60) and laden with features, but gas mileage is not great and it costs nearly $4,000 more. Both are highly rated for reliability and resale value.

Any sage advice from you guys? Do any of you have experience with a current model (2006 or 2007) Avalon or G35? Or should I just fix up the old car and keep it for another year?
