This couple has lived together for years and are both "dog people", not ever having had cats as part of the family.Last week they said a kitten had shown up at their house and was sort of hanging around. So they opened up a can of tuna and fed her.
Needless to say, the cat decided to hang around some more. She hung around so much that they named her Esther.
And being responsible new kitten owners, they decided to take her to the veterinarian for a checkup. The vet said, "Hey, this isn't a kitten. This is a cat."
"In fact, this cat is probably 18 years old."At this point in hearing the story, I'm thinking, Uh-Oh this cat probably went away to go die somewhere
and my friends littke kitten-rescue ain't gonna have a happy ending.Sure enough, after the vet did a bit more of an examination he determined the cat had cancer, and so she was put down.
I think on the bright side, Esther was given the chance at a comfortable last couple of days and to be put down humanely.
Plus, a can of tuna isn't a bad thing at all if you're a cat.All of that beats slinking off to die somewhere away from those that care about you.
