I have looked at those on the web. From what I read they
are being made by Clearaudio and are essentially a suped-up
Emotion. I heard an Emotion TT at a local dealer. The tonearm
on the Emotion is nicer than the 1210, but....given it's
design, it would suffer the same problems I had with footfalls
and acoustical feedback on my SOTA. The Marantz version has
different feet which I would hope do a better job than the
cones on the base Emotion model. Don't get me wrong, I like
Marantz products. But considering a price of ~$1500 for the
Marantz versus what the $460 I paid for my 1210M5G, I am
very skeptical that the extra ~$1K will yield that much
improvement. But I have been wrong before.... :-)
If I was going to spend ~$1500 for a TT, I would go with
a used VPI...As my friend once told me..."it's only money, you will make
more tomorrow.."BTW...give me some suggestions for some decent Bi-wire speaker
cables. I like my Cardas cables, but I need to get some that
are a little longer. I need some 10 footers with single bananas
on the amp end and bi-wire spades on the speaker end...
thanks in advance.... Bill
