You know I knew of this engagement, and we were taught about it.
Getting into the defensive trenches certainly seems to have been vital, HBO clearly put a LOT of effort into this series.
[Even the MG42's fire faster than the M1919's! I find it striking that the airborne did not seem to bother with BAR's.]
one does not mind the occasional obvious bit of CGI. Eg. in the fly-in dropping scenes, where the POINT of why/how the even worse scattering of the 101st happened is driven home.
NB. This problem was just ONE, of those that never went away during WWII - for all airborne units. The scattering in the drops over Italy was just as bad but mostly caused by fire from the supporting armadas. At least THAT didn't go wrong on D-Day early AM.
JBTW the German guns used in the battle are NOT 88's they are 105mm LFH18/40M field guns. I think the real ones WERE 88's.
