Although Calgary is the headquarters.....

of some of the most powerful oil & gas company in the world it still remains as one of the most environmentally conscious and friendly city in the world.

With a population of over a million and still growing by the minute due to the influx of province by province migration which is affected by the oil & gas industry boom. The city of Calgary manages to expand itself carefully by thorough planning through the rehabilitation of the old downtown district by incorporating the existing historical buildings fusing them with the new steel girdle skyscraper design. The result is one of the most awespiring city downtown sight has ever seen in Canada that lies west of Toronto and east of Vancouver.

Furthermore, we manage to reduce our vehicle’s global warming emission by supplying the locals with ample public transit schedules that service the entire city quadrant.

BTW, do not be afraid to visit us, our climate here is very tropical similar to yours except in the winter of course. The temperature in the summer can range between 15degC to 40degC. However, the fall is the best time of the year for us as the temperature is consistently hovering at around 18degC excellent for barbequing marshmallow in the evening.

Green Energy (excerpt taken from the city of Calgary website)

City operations will soon be powered by the wind.

The City of Calgary has entered into an electricity supply agreement with ENMAX to purchase green power over a 20-year term. The agreement requires that at least 75% of The City's electricity purchase comes from green electricity sources beginning in 2007, with the ability to increase the purchase target to at least 90% green electricity by 2012.

ENMAX is commencing construction of an 80-megawatt wind power generating facility in the M.D. of Taber, which will supply 75% of the City's electricity needs.

When The City starts to take delivery of the green electricity in 2007, it will be the only city in Canada to draw at least three-quarters of its electricity from certified green power, setting a new standard for environmental stewardship. The City of Calgary - ENMAX agreement is the largest single municipal government green electricity supply arrangement in North America.

By choosing green power, The City will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 262,000 tonnes annually, representing a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

The City's first green energy project was Calgary Transit's Ride the Wind program , which saw Calgary's Light Rail Transit (LRT) powered 100% by green power. This initiative made Calgary's the first wind powered public transit system in North America and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 26,000 tonnes annually.
