Why not simply persuade the gentle sex that dogs are rather more than mobile toys that exist solely for their entertainment, and as a result jointly obtaining an obvious dog (rather than some manufactured "creation") that may suit your family's lifestyle and temperament and is allowed to live as their cultural instincts dictate as far as practicable may be to your mutual benefit...IMO, if such an approach was rejected, I hold the opinion that the family involved was not yet ready for dog ownership!...
