The best book I've read in years, by the "washed up, brain fried"

Ken Kesey. "Sailor Song".

Get this book, it is phenomenal. The long, drawn out descriptions of what each part of a sailing vessel is (via the pop/adventure authors) are missing. Instead, you are given a character that's been fishing for 20 years and knows what the hell he's doing...no need for education, just the painting of the character.

Situations that are nearly as believable as they are hilarious...or ominous; reactions that make sense for the character you've come to know through Kesey's descriptions. Kesey doesn't spend a huge amount of time with each scene, just enough that you get to paint that scene in your head; a rarity in today's books.

I think that anyone will be impressed by this book as it is a great read, but people who have read Kesey may think like I do, that it surpasses anything he ever wrote, including "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". And this excellent authorship from a guy that some say is burnt out.

Get this book! I haven't enjoyed a book this much in many years, as a reader and as a writer.
