How private is private property?

The phone company traced static in the line to the underground line between the house & the pole, so will replace. They have an underground wire locating company locate the wires & mark them. The phone company knocks on the door-the wire locators don't.

Yesterday, I hear voices as I'm sitting at the comp & see 2 dudes outside the window in the backyard. They are leaving & walking back up the driveway, so I go out the front door & surprise them at the confluence of the house & driveway. (I just knew I'd be able to use that word one day outside of geography!) I kinda surprised them & asked what they were doing there-I wasn't being an ass but I wasn't greeting them like the people I see at church. I tell them they should've knocked, etc. & if my dog had been outside, there's a chance they could've been bitten, etc.

Today, another dude from the same company does the same thing! I first see him as I'm in the kitchen & he's closing the gate. I rap on the window & he waves at me. I point my .44 Redhawk at him & he wets himself. Not really, he didn't wave. OK, really, I wouldn't point a gun at anybody unless I intended on pulling the trigger. That's a discussion for another time.

So, I call the utility co & ask what's their policy on entering private property? The fellow I talked w/said they're supposed to knock. I'm thinking people have become complacent & these workers have picked up on that.

BTW, I was in the kitchen making the "creamy oatmeal" as described here previously. I'm happy to report I've consumed several containers worth of oatmeal & have now started purchasing the 42 oz. container.
