Storms - SEVERE - ACT's central CBD blanketed in deep layers of hail!!!! Many closures!!!

I recommend the video over towards the top right hand corner.

Now then, one of the things the GW models predict is an increase in the number of severe weather events, and we have had 6 severe storms in the last month!

last night was a doozey, we got 20mm's in half an hour - from the back of it! A good thing our city has several spread out centres isn't it?

It looked/s like a blizzard of snow hit Civic!

Note well that this was the last day of SUMMER, heavy rain from LOTS of PM thunderstorms, for weeks and weeks, is just NOT typical in februray. Nor is it in Autumn!

It is belting down, again, outside.

Even if it brings on 'a big blue with SWMBO' - we ARE putting in rain-tanks - off 3 of our 5 downpipes.

One will be a proper big rain-tank fed from the roof by one dp and from the deck's roof and it's new gutters and dp! One down-pipe out the front will get two ~1kl ex-starch tanks, for garden-watering only.

The other two downpipes can keep the storm water pipes under the block running.

the two big ones we can use for hand-washing, showers/baths, laundry and for fire fighting, flushing the toilet, and to water the garden. this last will add to the grey water which will be haeding for the garden.

This WILL require some extra copper lines. And, separating the rain water lines from the kitchen and dishwasher lines which will use potable water and NOT feed into the .

And two extra exterior taps, and a couple of mains-charged SLA battery-powered pumps with 3 speeds/pressures - i) high for fire fighting, ii) for garden-hose uses / sprinklers, iii) dripper-system pressure, and switching for the motor and charging, under the deck!

As those of you who have been following 'the Renovations/drainage sagas' may just guess. I HAVE got all my toes and fingers, legs and eyes crossed that the work on OUR 'new gutters and etc', starts before the next BIGGG down poor that happens directly over US.

Stage 1 :- removal of the gutters would be a good start. It might make the deck area out the back a lot wetter - for a few days - until the new gutters and flashing go in, but I for one, would stiil be a lot more relaxed!

The new gutters will mostly* be storm gutters that have a line of little slots/lips (spouts) facing out from the house and well below the line of the rear of the gutter on the facia board. And, the gutters WILL be entirely covered by metal leaf-guard#, with 'inspection sections' near the down pipes!

* NOT in the gap between covered deck and house, but other-wise the same size!

# There are three large trees in the front-yard plus several smaller ones, a birch for house shading and lotsa large shrubs! And out back (North) are several more large trees - two of are deciduous for house-shading. There used to be three MORE!!! big ones out the front - all gum trees. Gum trees drop leaves all year round, and bark and branches, too!

Birches and maples also drop seeds / seed pods as well as leaves and teeny spindly branch bits.

I HATE cleaning gutters, it is very hard on my nuckles, and I >ly hate heights as my bones become more brittle!

But, I love what trees do for a garden!
