I recommend Bill's "In a Sunburned Country" An outsider's view of the land down under.I've read several of his works and they are enjoyable reading. A lot is over the top, but there is still a good deal of truth in what he says. I read "Lost Continent" and what he says about the local environs is pretty much spot on, though given the Bryson touch.
A similar writer is Patrick McManus who does a lot of outdoors writing. Was a contributer to Field & Stream IIRC.
