Modifying is when you when cut up the physical mechanics of piece of equipment or change the circuit from its original intent..How is changing the capacitors to more modern and better electrically performing ones modifying when the old capacitors are no longer functioning as they once were? How is putting capacitors in with RTV modifying when they can easily be taken off and the original type caps can be put back in if they so desire without a trace? This is not a tube amp.The recap will simply mean taking out one cap and putting in another on the circuit boards.
You are the type of individual that would be very complacent with vintage gear running with old worn out leaky caps and out tolerance resistors and components producing a distortion rate that is 10 times higher than original spec and a 25% drop in power as long as it kept the original components in tact, right?.To hell with the fact that out of tolerance components can damage output devices as well putting an excessive load on the power transformers as well as output transformers in the case of tube amps..Leave it original even if it sounds like crap right?
You are one pathetic individual.Thank God,most people value their gear more than that and want it to perform its best which in most cases is much better than what you buy in modern gear. The only tube gear anyone mods is Dynaco which you need to mod as its a very poor and anemic circuit, especially the power supply.
I think you have definite issues you need to address because you have no idea what I was planning to do with the BA5000 Sansui...There isn't much to do other than to recap it or make necessary repairs which I did..The gentleman that owns the amp is from Korea and he teaches computer science at the University near where I live.He also owns a Mac 275 and he's heard Scott 340A I had rebuilt and he is very anxious for me to breathe new life in his amp so maybe you can tell him what you think so he can have a good laugh as well.
