I fully agree.What I meant to indicate was that pieces from the same era are more likely to give good results. It certainly didn't preclude finding a good match with pieces from different eras. It's just more of a crap game that way.
In my own system I'm running Double Advents ('73 and '74 vintage) with a 1989 Onkyo receiver. True, the Onkyo sounds very "70's". But the manufacturing dates are 15-16 years apart.
