When you do this cover the cone and surround with a disc of heavy cardboard, corregated will do, held in place with tape to gaurd against tool slips. You may have to pry grille cloth loose as well to begin with. Use a putty knife worked under the edge and back the wood veneer against knife pressure or scuffs with thick cardboard.
