This is correct. The system used a transformer and I think a cap to isolate the amp from the power mains, and sent the signal out over the house wiring. The fidelity wasn't great and for hi-fi it never caught on. Before intranets, this idea was used at colleges and factories to broadcast in-house music and announcements. The concept would later be used for the X10 household control system.
