Remove platter. Pack separately. Remove counter-weight, anti-skate string and weight (if it has them) and cartridge.
Tape arm to armrest. Either remove the machine from base, or snug down the fastening screws. Set into packaging, so that the arm, and the knobs, are not going to hit the inside of the box. This requires extra cardboard, or wood, or bubble-wrap.
Put box into a second box, using more peanuts, or bubble-wrap.
Cross your fingers.
