Re: Cleaning electronic components - what to use?

After waiting for the caps to discharge, I've had great luck on heavily dirty old tube equipment useing WD-40 and bits of worn out cotton diapers (no lint) for rags. Now then, the unit will smell...(like WD-40) for maybe 3 to 4 weeks, but the WD-40 eventually does dry out and go away. For rust and stubborn stains, I add ultra fine steel wool to the mix with great success. Working mostly on Fisher stuff, I've found that you can use the steel wool on an already fairly clean chassis to buff it to an almost chrome-like shine. In most cases without damageing the lettering...that depends more on the particular unit than anything else. Anyway, that's my two cents...:)!
