BTW- Many 1974 to 1980 receivers use a nasty op-amp in the phono section. Fully discrete receivers are the Pioneer at SX-800 and higher number series. All the Marantz and Onkyo TX-2500 and TX-4500. Other Onkyo are not attractive enough, the TX series has fantastic cosmetics I did not include the fully discrete Sansui G series as the regulator chips fails too often due to heat.

I believe pre-1974 receivers do not use op-amps. If you rebuild these fore-mentioned receivers with audio coupling caps, the sound can rival new SS amps that cost over $1000.

As previously mentioned I have a rebuilt Allied 395 (same as Pioneer SX-1000TW) that sounds very close to my best tube amp sound!
