RE: Check THESE out, never heard of them, rare JBL.

Around 1971 I worked for a dealer that had pretty much the whole JBL line. EVERYTHING looked so cool, especially the Aquarius line and the Ranger Paragon. The only ones that sold were the L100's and L200's, which were both fun for pop or rock, but that's about it. The RP, which was the earlier 2-way model, sounded absolutely wretched, but was visually stunning. Their brochures and magazine ads had very striking styling. They projected cool, affluent California.

Please no hate mail on the Ranger Paragon. I understand the 3-way version wasn't quite as bad, and I know a Japanese outfit is recreating them and finding at least some demand at stratospheric prices. I haven't heard either. FWIW, the Ranger Paragon was pretty stratospheric for its time; it listed at $1,830 in 1957, which was $40 less than a new Ford Custom coupe. A speaker that cost as much as a car was unheard of then. Not so much now...

As usual, I digress.
