I am repairing one of these that has a strange problem of when in the cabinet it will start to make a horrendous humming noise unaffected by the volume/master pot. When I took it out, no noise! I just saw that there is a screen attached to the inside top of the cab, I am guessing as a ground shield, is that original to the design? I also noticed a grid-like (yes, like the screen!) on one of the output tube wires. At this point I am thinking that there is some shorting out on that wire to the shield, I should also note that there is one output tube that was part of a replaced quad several years ago that has almost no getter on top, thought at first the tube was bad (and it still may be) but testing it on the tube tester says otherwise, although we know that tube testers are not always trustable. Thanks!
