I trust that this was a punctuation error, not a claim that the whole spectrum is encompassed by the music of the 60's and 70's.
It seems to me that bass problems are going to be inevitable in the environment you described. Before committing to a subwoofer, I recommend working with the placement of the main speakers, with the goal achieving a more pleasing balance, if not actually stronger bass.
I don't know the specifics of the Bertagnis, but planars can soak up a lot of power. Your 50 watt Sansui might not be up to the job.
