RE: Acoustic Suspension: Not the same as sealed box

More issues than I have intelligent comments for, but my experience is that very few drivers are what I'd want for a sealed box, i.e., they don't have that very low Fs and floppy suspension from the good old days. A sealed box will always raise the resonant frequency, so if you want to go low, the driver had better start out even lower. I've built a lot of ported boxes over the years, and they can be pretty good if done right, but I also have a lot of sympathy for the crowd that doesn't like 'em. For the last few years I've used essentially open baffle designs in the midrange, and they seem more natural. IMO, small sealed midrange drivers of any type have problems. Though I've never built one, t-lines seem like a natural progression. There seem to be a lot of drivers out there with no imaginable purpose, at least for hi-fi. Apparently the market for buzzers and sirens is larger than I thought.
