Look for bad solder joints. Mc used hand soldering and over the years the solder migrates due to the makeup. With time this can cause what you subscribe as an early warning indicator. Some simply reheat the joint and maybe even dab a bit of solder while others will desolder (remove the old solder) and use new solder that is less prone to migration. Also, the 5100 is of an age when the caps are going to need attention as sell as resistors.
