Home Vintage Asylum

Classic gear from yesteryear; vintage audio standing the test of time.

byrd,

you have tubed Mc, right? See simple search for controversial views of the C28, and Brian Levy seems to be the one who knows.

My uncle has one and I had a C26. I did not really like the sound of SS McIntosh of that vintage, and switched out to GAS and Hafler, with a much smoother and musical sound, to my memory then (late 70's to 80's). GAS Thoebe is still a good preamp, and now I run a Dyna PAS 2 in my 2nd system. Of interest, I have a maligned MA 5100, and it has some of the traits of McIntosh, but it's not as clean as the PAS into Hafler XL 280 for my 2nd set.

Synergy and preferences matter as well.
