Re: Emotional Attachments

I miss my first "real" system -- a Sansui 3000 receiver, three-way Quadraflex speakers in heavy solid-wood cabinets, a low-end Technics cassette deck, and a Yamaha YP-something turntable with a Grado Black cartridge. It got me through many a wild NYC party at mega-volume -- we just kept a stash of fast-blow fuses on hand for the speakers and Sansui.

The turntable crapped out first, then the Technics deck. The receiver and speakers were passed on to friends and are probably still going strong!

My stuff today probably sounds a lot better objectively speaking, but there was something about blasting "The Wall" or "Dixie Chicken" at high decibels on that system (in a series of high-ceilinged, hardwood-floored Brooklyn brownstone living rooms) that still makes me smile to think of it.
