Re: the foam rings

From what I have gathered from the Lansing site, JBL began placing small bypass caps on their networks at the time of the 43XX's, so you can sometimes comes across these models with and without the bypass caps. Not much of a mod, true, but this is something they were doing, so maybe there is some value to it. I've yet to do mine or even check if they are there or not, they sound great either way, I'm sure.

Folks here recommend the bypassing for 4311s if it is not there, but they also claim to hear differences between speakers with crushed dust caps and surrounds installed on the front of the cone, rather than behind. Superhuman, they are.
